I moved countries during the pandemic, and this is that story.

It was the February of 2020, I was in my final year of college, all ready to graduate by May and move to the States by the July of 2020. Little did I know that the biggest decision of my life will come to a halt in just a few days. The news of an unknown virus had begun spreading like wildfire. Yes, Covid-19.

All my dreams of spending the last few days in India with my friends in college came shambling down. My desire of attending my convocation and graduation ceremony shattered as it was canceled.

I was surrounded by the last thing on my mind, death. The stories of multiple people that I had known throughout life passing away took a mental toll. The uncertainty regarding my final university examinations really affected me. My sibling’s uncertainty regarding her wedding date literally brought me to tears.

The thought of uprooting my life to go to another continent during the pandemic terrified me.

So here we were, quarantining and staying at home for a really long time. The one thing that I learned last year is that things will always work out with time.

My life somehow worked out a little by little.

I graduated in October.

My sibling got married in November.

And I moved to the States in December, found a rather decent job and am starting from scratch.

I’m currently figuring out 'life’.

Hailing from a “middle-class” family, as the citizens of my country, India, would love to call it, I lived a rather tedious life. And here I am, in a brand new country, living a brand new life, advancing my career, and experiencing the world.

It was one hell of a ride but it was all worth it in the end.

Or was it? We’ll never know.
